Late October, an hour before dark, the wind lays off and the limestone gives back the heat it took all day. That is the hour to be standing on Tract 19. Sound travels a long way out here. A short drive out of town, the Devil's Sinkhole drops 350 ft straight into the same limestone that's under your boots on this tract, and on summer evenings the free-tailed bats boil up out of that hole by the millions. Folks drive a long way to watch it. You'd be close enough to go on a whim.
