By 1930 Schleicher County ran close to a quarter million sheep and clipped better than a million and a half pounds of wool a year, with mohair on top of that, and when the West Texas Woolen Mills opened in Eldorado in 1941 the town became the wool processing center for the whole region. The Santa Fe line that finally steamed into Eldorado in 1930 hauled those fleeces out to the world. Range like that takes room, and this country still shows it. Big sky, mesquite and oak, and neighbors you have to drive a while to wave at.
