The Ranch
About Darden Canyon
The High Plains quit all at once out here. The Caprock breaks apart into canyons and mesas, big sky and few neighbors, and Darden Canyon was cut from the middle of it. This is the heart of old Matador Ranch country, the spread a Scottish syndicate in Dundee bought in 1882 and grew into an empire of 861,000 acres below the Caprock, headquartered at Ballard Springs about fifteen miles from here. The Matador is still out there working cattle today.
This has been hunting country from the start. Hide dealers out of Dodge City set up Tee Pee City in 1875, a trading post in this same corner of the county so rowdy the Matador declared it off limits to its own cowboys. Today the breaks carry a reputation for mule deer and aoudad, with whitetail in the mix, and ground this rough is exactly where that reputation gets earned. Each tract gives you your own piece of the breaks, surveyed before you buy, with deeded access instead of a handshake.
Owner financing makes the numbers easy, as little as 5% down and a note you can stretch to 30 years. Call us about Darden Canyon, or come stand in the breaks and see it for yourself.
